HAWKINS STAINLESS STEEL 4 LITERS PRESSURE COOKER

Great kitchen addition
I bought one of these after seeing a friend use his all the time. He grew up in India, where these cookers are made. I researched the sizes and got the 4-liter one even though I thought it would be one too large for most of my needs. (The smaller ones are aluminum). The stainless one has a very heavy bottom, which makes it great to fry onions and tomatoes up before adding other ingredients and putting on the pressure. Also it makes a great heavy stainless pot even if you do not need to pressure cook. It ended up to be a great size for making soup, stews and meals for two to four (depending on meal). You cannot fill these cookers to the top, so get a bigger size than you would in other pots. The pressure cooker is such a great way to cook beans and rice dishes fast. Very economical in saving fuel and energy, and the results are great. There is an Indian cookbook and instructions included in case you have not used one before.

Blew the safety valve on the second use
We did everything according to the instructions, right amount of water and heat and yet the safety valve melted on second use. This appears to be a common issue with Hawkins now-a-days. We've previously owned the same pressure cooker for over 20 years without this issue. I would not buy this again.
